Kate Kunath’s subjects often find her by coincidence. A short news item on the radio or a sign stapled to a telephone pole might determine the content of her artistic practice for months. Often, surprising connections between these disparate subjects are revealed. The nine-year-old triplets from Maryland and the middle-aged businessman from Chengdu may remain utterly unaware of each other. Yet, by focusing in depth on one topic at a time, Kate develops a personal and artistic investment in illuminating what naturally emerges from this investigation. With humor and tenderness, narratives develop organically, and the symmetry in nature and the human experience is explored.
