Kate Kunath is an Emmy Award winning Director and Executive Producer/ Showrunner known for her documentary, non-fiction and branded works. 

She recently joined forces with Hello Sunshine for the soon to be released, In Her Element, an innovative documentary highlighting women in tech created and shot in XR (extended reality). During the pandemic she has also been directing and shooting bespoke stories for BBC Travel's Untold America series. Her most recent doc film Show Me the Way ( was shortlisted in 2019 for the International IDA Awards (IDA).

In 2018, Kunath was awarded Primetime Emmy in the category of Outstanding Short Form Non-Fiction Series for  Anthony Bourdain: Explore Parts Unknown: Little Los Angeles, which she Directed and Executive Produced. Kunath directed and produced several award winning projects with Bourdain and his partners at Roads & Kingdoms.

Kunath's work, whether it's for a non-profit or a brand partner, whether it features a taco truck cook or a celebrity actor, is guided and centered by an authentic voice. She has won numerous awards and gained industry recognition from the James Beard Foundation, Lowell Thomas Travel Journalism Awards, International Association of Culinary Professionals, Adweek ARC Award, PromaxBDA Gold Excellence, and a number of Webby's.

Kunath is a regular contributor to the Outwords Archive and a frequent contributor to many feature length documentary projects and non-fiction shorts. Her first directed and produced feature length documentary We Came to Sweat, premiered at New Fest in New York and the British Film Institute Flare Festival in London in 2014. Kunath earned her MFA from Hunter College, NYC and currently lives in Los Angeles.  

As a maker of non-fiction works and travel-related content the pandemic shutdowns have been new proving ground for Kunath who continues to push the boundaries of creative and elevated non-fiction storytelling.
